01 World Wide Technology Hyperscale hardware integration

Quality at the source

How a full-rack integration operation moved from approximately 70% First Pass Yield to 99.7%—and sustained it.

When I joined World Wide Technology in November 2021, approximately three in every ten fully integrated racks failed the independent Quality inspection on their first pass.

The failures rarely came from one complex technical problem. They accumulated through inconsistent workstations, unnecessary movement, missed steps, labelling errors and deviations from standard documentation.

I led a redesign of the operating system: rebalancing the production layout based on cycle-time analysis, co-designing 32 modular cabling stations, introducing quality gates at major production milestones, strengthening standard work and implementing live dashboards, tiered accountability and clearer cross-functional escalation.

Official Quality data recorded a full-year First Pass Yield of 99.7% in 2022. The operating system was embedded into daily work so that performance would not depend on any one leader.
